Orientation

A comprehensive orientation program is provided to all staff on commencement of employment to introduce them to the organisation and their new workplace.

Mandatory Education Program

South Perth Hospital provides a comprehensive mandatory education program covering legislated training requirements in addition to subjects identified as being of relevance to staff learning requirements.  Mandatory education days are rostered.

Internal and External Development Programs

There are opportunities through the learning and development program for ongoing professional and personal development.

Internally a diverse educational program is delivered with adedicated Staff Development Nurse available in the peri-operative area.

Additional paid study day leave is available upon application to staff members undertaking approved and relevant external education.

All staff participate in regular performance review through which opportunities for development and training are identified to meet personal and organisational needs.

 

Experience

South Perth Hospital also provides work place experience for students undertaking the Instep programs and Transition to Registered Nurse program with Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA http://www.cciwa.com/educationtraining/

 

Graduate Nurse Program

South Perth Hospital offers a 12 month Graduate Nurse Program which on completion awards the participant with a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Nursing from Notre Dame University.

Our welcoming environment provides Graduates with unique opportunities to enhance their skills and competencies in a supportive and caring environment which includes ongoing experience, education and evaluation.

The Graduate Nurse Program provides practical experience and theoretical support to allow newly graduated nurses to consolidate their clinical skills and nursing management practice.

We offer three clinical rotations in Medical/Surgical, Day Surgery and Peri-operative Suite.

INFECTION PREVENTION AND CONTROL

The South Perth Hospital infection prevention and control program supports safe practice and a safe environment for its staff, patients and visitors.

The program utilises a risk management approach and is based on best practice guidelines.  http://www.safetyandquality.gov.au

Regular auditing of health care workers hand hygiene practices are undertaken as part of the National Hand Hygiene initiative and results submitted to Hand Hygiene Australia.  http://www.hha.org.au/  Hand Hygiene Stations are located around the hospital for visitors use
